Census UK Census Maps

Occurrence of name in England and Wales (and Scotland where applicable)

I have produced maps that show the occurrence of the study names in the released censuses of 1841 - 1911. The counts reflect the number of people within counties who were born with the name or acquired it e.g. through marriage.

The figures are as complete as possible.  Apart from the obvious fact that some people are not identifiable or may never have been recorded it is known that some records have been lost (e.g. 1861 Thrupp, Oxfordshire).

The maps have been produced using GenMap and then screen images taken. The maps are now available as an Adobe Acrobat  PDF document covering 1841 - 1911.

British 1881 Census - Discrepancies with LDS CDs The LDS released a series of CDs with transcriptions and indexes of the 1881 British Census. I have compared these with the information I had collected and where I found discrepancies I have gone back and checked the films. I've since corrected my versions where I have made mistakes or misinterpreted the data. The linked page shows where there are still discrepancies.
1911 Census Experience I've tried to describe my experience of dealing with the 1911 Census from a 'One Namer' point of view in the document called '1911 Census Experience'.

England & Wales 1901 Census See the information that has been extracted from the 1901 census for England and Wales.
Military Military Service around World War 1 I've consolidated various records to do with the Military service the Baughans etc. participated in around World War 1. The table shows which Medal Rolls, Pensions records and Service records match to the individuals. A considerable number of records have different names but I have put them under the names that I identify as the person. There are still some individuals that have not been identified. The page also contains extracts from the National Roll of the Great War.
Servicemen who gave their lives in World War 1 and 2 Based on entries from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
Index of Servicemen awarded War Medals during the 1914-1918 War Based on records held at the Public   Record Office/ National Archives, Kew. I've also added a link in this page and the Medals Index page to point to the National Archives webpage describing about the Medal Index Cards and showing what the campaign medals look like.
Immigration/ Emigration Ellis Island Records See the information that has been extracted from the American Family Immigration History Center relating Baffin, Baugham, Baughan, Baughen, Baughn, Boffin, Banghan and Banghen (no entries for Bauffin, Bangham, DeBaughan or DeBaughn).

Wills & Letters of Administration List A list of Wills and Letters of Administration, mainly proved in English Courts.
DNA Project Link to DNA Study Invitation Ed Robson and others have started a DNA Study on the Baughan and other variants lines to see if there are connections.
I've joined the Baughan DNA project. I hope others will join. My personal aim is to link the majority of Baughan, Baughen, Boffin etc. families back to Great Rollright, Oxfordshire.
