Highworth (Wiltshire) Gathering 2004Saturday 18th September 2004I am in the process of organising another Baughen gathering. This will be held in Highworth, Wiltshire on 18th September 2004. So far a room for 50 people has been booked for 12:45 to 16:45. The Highworth History Group have kindly agreed to give a talk on Highworth and do a 'town walk'; they will be there from 2pm. To keep my expenses down and be able to keep things simple all announcements will be via the Baughen newsgroup (Baughen-L@rootsweb.com) and this web page. The gathering will be held at St Michael's Highworth The Church Room, Vicarage Lane, Highworth SN6 7AD The general location can be found by using one of the online street maps, such as Streetmaps or Multimap, and put in the Post Code of SN6 7AD. The Church Room can be found behind the main church (separate building). When we visited Highworth a couple of months back there was free car parking off of Brewery Street.
Why Highworth? The Baughan/Baughn line first appears in the Parish Registers in 1753 and continue through to the end of the 19th century. Most English Baughns come from these lines. Probably the most famous within these lines was Percy Baughan who was responsible for the Baughan motor company (mainly in Stroud, Gloucestershire).
